Leafy gem on the Hudson
Irvington is host to an eclectic mix of lively shops and restaurants in the historic downtown which complement the quiet residential areas that surround it. The town's ample green space and carefully preserved 19th-century architecture entice newcomers and retain long-time residents.
On Metro-North, the ride to Grand Central is approximately 45 minutes. By car, it's just 20 miles to the city on the Saw Mill River Parkway.
Originally called Dearman, Irvington was renamed in 1854 to honor The Legend of Sleepy Hollow author Washington Irving, who lived in town.
In the warm months, a popular Farmer's Market offers artisanal cheeses, organic produce, plants, homemade baked goods and more.
